Regain Sex Drive and a Healthy Prostate
Sex is the subject matter of psychophysiology, the branch of psychology that is concerned with the physiological bases of psychological processes. Sex drive is as much of a psychological problem as it is physiological. Male sex drive can be hampered by a lack of desire due to stress as much as it can with physiological disorders, from testosterone levels to an enlarged prostate.
With advancing age, the major portion of testosterone produced by men is bound by sex hormone globulins, which leads to a low sex drive and lack of energy. A low level of testosterone is also a major reason behind erectile dysfunction.
Besides testosterone levels, there is a strong correlation with sex drive and prostate gland health in men. One of the major problems that men face once they cross forty is a condition where the prostate enlarges and strangulates the urethra, the canal through which urine is discharged. The urethra is also the male genital duct, and therefore an enlarged prostate can also give rise to erectile dysfunction. The problem is further aggravated due to the side effects of medications for treating an enlarged prostate.
Although it is not firmly established, frequent sex may help improve prostate health and avoid prostate cancer. Frequent sex means frequent ejaculations and increased expulsion of pathogens that may be present in the prostatic fluid, which forms a major portion of the ejaculated sperm.
The theory makes logical sense, and there is no harm in trying to regain lost sexual drive, even if it is just for improving the health of your prostate. Many companies sell sexual performance products but they should be bought after adequate consideration. Falling for hyperboles and fancy photos will do you no good. The primary consideration should be safety of the drug. It should also be kept in mind that there are differences between products for enhancing sex drive and those meant specifically for, say, premature ejaculation treatment. Premature ejaculation is an entirely different field of sexual prowess than sex drive.
Some of the conventional drugs have side effects that may actually diminish your sex drive if used over a long period. In addition, the dangerous side effects of anabolic steroids have become well-known.
The solution to helping maintain sex drive lies in maintaining the body’s natural balance. Avoid smoking and reduce your consumption of alcohol to recommended levels to regain lost desire for sex. Try to avoid stress, as it is the major psychological factor behind your losing interest in sex. Many herbs, vitamins, minerals, and amino acids have also been employed successfully for improving libido in both sexes. Improving sex drive is critical for both sexes. For men with prostate problems, it may prove to be an advantage, and an effective mode of managing symptoms associated with prostate enlargement.
