Hold your pointer finger and thumb about an inch and a half apart, placed this next to large goblet of wine or about two to three ounces. Any more is not a heart benefit and may in fact be an estrogen booster, something to think about for anyone who has a relative who's had breast cancer. As someone with breast cancer in her family, I found this sobering.
If you love to indulge in a delicious glass of wine with dinner, you may, certainly. But don't fool yourself into thinking that downing half a bottle is helping your heart.
Alcohol can give you a belly with your buzz: Not only does booze contains calories, it can slow down your body's fat-burning ability, and no one wants that!
My advice: Have one drink, and make sure it's one you'll really enjoy. If you're sick of wine and light beer (both have 100 to 125 calories per serving), try one of these fun but light cocktails:
Pimm's No. 1, club soda, a slice of cucumber and lemon peel (71 calories)
Campari, club soda and a shot of grapefruit juice (142 calories)
Vodka with grapefruit juice and a shot of club soda (170 calories)
Faux Long Island iced tea made with rum and unsweetened iced tea (205 calories)
