HARD BOILED EGGS HOW TO MAKE THE PERFECT EASTER EGG

Here's how to boil the perfect egg ,...when eggs are boiled, the sulfur present in the egg white combines with the iron in the egg yolk, producing ferrous sulfite, which creates a green film on the border between the white and the yolk. The presence of this line means the egg is overcooked. It isn't harmful to eat, but it's not pretty! Cooking water high in iron can also produce the green ring. So if your tap water is high in iron you might want to use bottled or filtered water to cook your eggs.

For the best hard cooked eggs, first make sure your eggs aren't brand-spanking new. Buy a dozen and refrigerate them for 5 days, then use them. Newer eggs are harder to peel because the egg white is higher in acid when first laid, making the white adhere to the shell. The acidity of the egg white decreases over time, loosening its grip on the shell.

Place the eggs in water that covers them by one inch. Bring to a boil over high heat. When the water boils vigorously, cover the pan and remove it from the heat. Let the pan stand, covered, for 15 minutes for large eggs (12 for medium, 18 for extra large).

The next step will help you peel eggs perfectly. Uncover the pan and place it in the sink. Run cold water into the pan for 7-8 minutes, until the eggs are cool to the touch. Then add ice cubes to the pan and, leaving the eggs under the water, crack them gently against the sides of the pan. Let stand for another 5 minutes. This lets water seep between the shell and the egg, making peeling easier. Peel the eggs under the water.

Hard cooked eggs can be stored, in your refrigerator, well covered, for 3-4 days.

STUDYS SHOW MEN LOVE ASPARUGUS AND WOMEN EAT MORE HAMBURGERS

A telephone survey of 14,000 Americans confirmes that most men eat more meat than women, and women eat more fruits and vegetables.

But here's where the study got interesting,..did you know that men were much more likely to eat asparagus, brussels sprouts, peas and peanuts. They also were bigger consumers of frozen pizzas, frozen hamburgers and frozen Mexican dinners.

Women are more likely than men to eat eggs, yogurt and fresh hamburgers.

Men also showed a little more of an appetite for runny eggs and undercooked hamburgers two foods that health experts say carry a higher chance of contamination that can make you sick.

Women were more likely than men to eat only one risky food, raw alfalfa sprouts, which in the past 15 years have been linked to outbreaks of food poisoning.

The survey may help health educators better target public health messages about healthy eating.

HOW MANY CALORIES ARE IN AN EASTER EGG

How Many Calories Does An Easter Egg Have?

Calories in Egg Yolks

The yolk is extremely high in cholesterol, containing more than two-thirds of the recommended daily limit of 300 mg! However, the yolk has many health strengths necessary for immunity, healthy skin, nerves and vision. The yolk contains good amounts of B Vitamins, Vitamin A, iron and riboflavin.

Calories in Egg Whites

Egg whites are very low in calories, have no fat, no cholesterol, and are loaded with protein. The egg white is less likely than the yolk to harbor dangerous salmonella, but due to the health risks that raw eggs present, consumption is highly discouraged by medical experts.

Calories Based on one large egg:

Egg White 17 calories

Egg Yolk 59 calories

Fried Egg 92 calories

Hard-Boiled Egg 76 calories

Poached Egg 76 calories

Scrambled Egg 100 calories

Diet Tip - Reducing Recipe Calories Containing Eggs

For those on a very restrictive diet, there are some wonderful health-smart egg products on the market that aid in reducing unhealthy cholesterol levels. EggBeaters is a wonderful egg substitute and if you are watching your waistline, you could reap very good results by incorporating this product into your diet.

Even though the easter egg is a relatively low calorie food, when one is dieting they want to cut every calorie possible to achieve maximum weight loss. To cut back on the calorie of your eggs, try using one yolk and two whites. For less than 100 calories, you've got a luscious and light meal.

THE EASTER EGG DIETS A HIT

If eating eggs constantly appeal to you? Then the easter Egg diet is for you. There have been several version of this diet existing for years, which basically consists of eating up to 6 hardboiled eggs each day. Eggs are a good source of complete protein and also essential vitamins and minerals. They are low in calories but do contain high protein and fat. This could be incorporated into a low or no-carb diet such as Atkins.

Foods Emphasized: Eggs, egg whites, hardboiled eggs, scrambled eggs, omelets, sunny-side-up eggs, and soft-boiled eggs

Foods Restricted: Carbohydrates and artificial sweeteners

Premise and Guidelines: Eggs are known for containing protein, but they also have high amounts of vitamins and minerals. Also, egg whites contain one of purest form of proteins available in whole-foods. Its protein content is so unparalleled that nutritionists use eggs as the standard when comparing other whole-food proteins. That is why so many bodybuilders consume large amounts of eggs- the protein is easily absorbable and even tops beef and meat protein for digestive efficiency.

The easter egg diet is a high-protein, low-carbohydrate plan requiring you to eat several eggs throughout the day. You can generally eat as many eggs as you wish as long as you limit your carb intake. Eggs really pack a punch by filling you up on relatively low calories. It’s probably better to be consumed along with a balanced meal or as a snack instead as of the sole meal. Those following this diet may soon tire of boiling and smelling eggs. And most would agree that eggs taste better with toast, which is restricted!

Although eggs are a perfectly good and healthy food source, weight-loss might not be easy with this diet. It might be good to increase egg consumption if you plan to body build or try to increase your muscle mass, but for now, continue to enjoy your easter eggs by including them in a balanced meal program that includes them in moderation.

WHY BEING A NURSE IS BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH

The very chemicals used to keep hospitals squeaky clean and to treat patients could be harmful to nurses who are exposed to them in their daily duties, according to a study released Tuesday by an Oakland environmental group.

Nurses are exposed to a wide range of chemicals on the job - from heavy-duty cleaners and latex to chemotherapy drugs - that could have long-term effects on their health and the health of their children, say researchers with the Environmental Working Group and Health Care Without Harm, which coordinated an online survey of 1,500 nurses in the United States.

But few regulations limit nurses’ exposure to chemicals, and, in fact, most nurses have no idea that their work environment could be harmful, said Jane Houlihan, vice president of research for Environmental Working Group and an author of the study.

“As much as we rely on nurses to protect us when we’re sick, we’re not protecting nurses in return,” Houlihan said. “They face a diverse range of exposures in the workplace that really could pose significant health risks.”

MY DIABETICS GUIDE TO SAVING AT THE GROCERY STORE

Diabetes can take a toll on your budget because of doctor's visits, medication costs and other expenses. But don't let a tight budget lead to a poor diet. You don't need expensive diabetic or glucose-free foods to eat right when you have diabetes. The foundation foods of your meal plan — beans, rice, and whole-grain breads — are inexpensive.

Fill your cupboards with other nutritious foods using these tips:

1.For snacks, try popcorn, pretzels, or cereal.

2.Fresh vegetables in season are a great buy. Otherwise, canned and frozen vegetables are similar nutritionally.

3.Buy fruits in season for the best taste and bargain prices, and give the local farmer's market a try.

4.Buy or make plain yogurt and add your own fresh fruit.

5.Use powdered fat-free milk for cooking and baking — it's inexpensive and stays fresh for a long time if the box is refrigerated.

6.Make meat a side dish rather than the whole meal, or make meatless meals throughout the week.

7.Choose fats, sweets, and alcohol less often to benefit both your budget and your diabetes.

Times are tough and having diabetes doesn't make it any easier I hope my tips help.

GOJI BERRIES THE HEALTHY NEW IT FOOD

In the last couple of years, goji berries have risen from obscurity to become the new "it" superfood. Time Magazine calls Himalayan goji berries the "breakout superfruit of the year". Luxury chocolatier Vosges Haut-Chocolat has jumped on the goji bandwagon with the Goji bar, which blends Tibetan goji berries and pink Himalayan salt with milk chocolate for a mere $7 a bar. Goji berries even made the Today Show's Style List of what's hot and what's cool.

"Goji berries have been bottled into a juice that is chock-full of the fruit that Tibetans believe fights depression and cancer and even prevents signs of aging".

SO WHAT ARE GOJI BERRIES

Goji berries grow on an evergreen shrub found in temperate and subtropical regions in China, Mongolia and in the Himalayas in Tibet. They are in the nightshade (Solonaceae) family.

Goji berries are usually found dried. They are shriveled red berries that look like red raisins.

WHAT ARE THE HEALTH BENIFITS OF GOJI BERRIES

Goji berries protect the liver

help eyesight

improve sexual function and fertility

strengthen the legs

boost immune function

improve circulation

promote longevity

Goji berries are rich in antioxidants, particularly carotenoids such as beta-carotene and zeaxanthin. One of zeaxanthin's key roles is to protect the retina of the eye by absorbing blue light and acting as an antioxidant. In fact, increased intake of foods containing zeathanthin may decrease the risk of developing age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the leading cause of vision loss and blindness in people over the age of 65.

In recent years, goji juice has become popular as a health beverage. Marketers also list extensive health benefits of goji juice, even though there are few published clinical trials in humans.

WHAT DO GOJI BERRIES TASTE LIKE

Goji berries have a mild tangy taste that is slightly sweet and sour. They have a similar shape and chewy texture as raisins.

WHERE CAN I FIND GOJI BERRIES

Whole goji berries are available at Chinese herbal shops.

Goji juice can be found in some health food stores, online stores, and through network marketers.

HEALTHY FOOD THAT WILL KEEP YOU FEELING FULL

Are there any diet-friendly foods that keep you feeling full for hours, yes there are your best bets include protein and fiber. Protein works because compared to carbohydrate and fat, protein takes a longer time to digest.

Fiber helps by absorbing water, and therefore, expanding in your stomach and creating a feeling of fullness. Single foods that automatically combine the two - and are less than 200 calories - include ½ cup starchy beans (for example, navy, kidney, black, pinto and garbanzo beans) and one ounce nuts or seeds.

The following menu provides a few meal ideas that I highly recomend.

Breakfast: ½ cup Kellogg’s All-Bran or General Mills Fiber One cereal, plus 1 cup of cinnamon-flavored Barbara’s Puffins, and 1 cup of Skim Plus (higher in protein than other milks). *You can also use 1 cup Kashi Go Lean cereal mixed with Skim Plus.

Lunch: Large vegetable salad with 3-5 ounces grilled chicken, half cup chick peas, and low-calorie vinaigrette dressing.

Dinner: Shrimp-vegetable stir fry with ½ cup brown rice.

Snack Options (each between 100-200 calories):

One piece of fruit + one ounce low-fat cheese
20 almonds or 35 pistachio nuts
Non-fat yogurt topped with ½ cup high fiber cereal

HOW MUCH WINE SHOULD I DRINK TO HELP MY HEART

Hold your pointer finger and thumb about an inch and a half apart, placed this next to large goblet of wine or about two to three ounces. Any more is not a heart benefit and may in fact be an estrogen booster, something to think about for anyone who has a relative who's had breast cancer. As someone with breast cancer in her family, I found this sobering.

If you love to indulge in a delicious glass of wine with dinner, you may, certainly. But don't fool yourself into thinking that downing half a bottle is helping your heart.

Alcohol can give you a belly with your buzz: Not only does booze contains calories, it can slow down your body's fat-burning ability, and no one wants that!

My advice: Have one drink, and make sure it's one you'll really enjoy. If you're sick of wine and light beer (both have 100 to 125 calories per serving), try one of these fun but light cocktails:

Pimm's No. 1, club soda, a slice of cucumber and lemon peel (71 calories)

Campari, club soda and a shot of grapefruit juice (142 calories)

Vodka with grapefruit juice and a shot of club soda (170 calories)

Faux Long Island iced tea made with rum and unsweetened iced tea (205 calories)

PIZZA FOR BREAKFAST WHT IT'S SO HEALTHY

Pizza? For breakfast? Why yes...the truth is that you can crack open last night's leftovers in the a.m. if you want to... and why you should!!

I know lots of women who skip breakfast, and they have a ton of different excuses for doing it. Some say they don't have time, others think they're "saving" calories by eliminating a meal, still others just don't like breakfast food.

But the bottom line is, eating in the morning is crucial when you're trying to trim down. Eating just about anything in the range of 300 to 400 calories would be better than nothing at all. And even pizza can be healthy if it's thin-crust, loaded with veggies, and you stick to one slice.

Research shows that eating breakfast revs up your metabolism, keeps you from overeating later in the day and may even help sleekify your abs. Researchers at the University of Southern California at Los Angeles found that breakfast skippers have bigger tummies than those who regularly have a morning meal.

So eat something in the morning, anything. I know plenty of pals who end up forgoing it altogether to have just coffee or cola. I say, try heating up last night's leftovers-it may sound crazy, but if it works for you, do it!

Bonus: I find if I tell myself, "You can always eat it tomorrow," I put away the leftovers instead of eating more that night. Try it...you may save yourself some prebedtime calories. And watch your body reap the fat-burning benefits.

WHY IS KIWIFRUIT SO HEALTHY

A little green fruit with fuzzy brown skin can help your heart big time!

Eating lots of kiwifruit is like putting a tag team of heart helpers on your cardio-health case.

Here's why.

It's in Your Blood
Kiwifruit appear to put the kibosh on artery-clogging plaques in two ways: They help lower triglyceride levels, and they reduce platelet clumping. The platelet effect could be particularly good for your ticker: Although platelets aid in blood clotting, when these cells stick together too much, it could set the stage for a heart attack or stroke.

Head of the Class
There's plenty of heart-helping nutrition in kiwifruit to explain these positive impacts. You may be surprised to learn a kiwi has more vitamin C than an orange, beats bananas for potassium, and is chock-full of vitamin E and magnesium.

Dive In
Kiwifruit are easy to eat. Just slice one in half and scoop out the insides with a spoon, like you would a melon.

RealAge Benefit: Eating 5 servings of fruit a day can make your RealAge 1.4 years younger

SECRETS TO A NATURAL WEIGHT LOSS

Add on years by shedding some extra pounds! These days, upwards of 60 percent of Americans are obese or overweight.

The rates of heart disease, stroke, cancer, and diabetes are skyrocketing. Here are some ways to cut your risk of being counted among the statistics and lose the weight.

Slimming Solutions
Traditional Chinese medicine works to maintain a healthy and balanced body system. A healthy weight can be maintained when the body is working optimally, stress is low, and spirits are peaceful and content. It is when the body is out of balance that digestive weaknesses arise, your metabolism shifts, and adipose tissue (fat cells) accumulates.

Here is what you can do to achieve a healthy weight:

1. First of all, avoid any fad diets and fast-acting solutions that guarantee incredible weight loss while you watch television and eat deserts.

2. Focus on being fit rather than being thin. Aiming to be thin often means restricted eating, over-exercising, and anxious obsessing about weight - there is nothing healthy about this mindset.

3. Eat five small meals per day. Find a small bowl the size of your two palms when they are placed next to each other - this should be the size of each meal. Eating throughout the day keeps you from becoming famished and overeating at your next meal.

4. Your last meal of the day should be no later than 7 p.m.

5. Eliminate candy, sugar, and soda from your diet. Instead of candy, chew on some fresh peppermint leaves or cinnamon sticks. Use honey sparingly as a replacement for sugar.

6. Eat more complex carbohydrates and ample quantities of fresh fruits and vegetables. Keep dairy to a minimum because most dairy products are high in saturated fat, which is not healthy for your cardiovascular system when consumed in larger amounts. Opt for the lower fat dairy products such as low-fat or non-fat milks, cheeses, and yogurt. Avoid fatty foods, processed or fried foods.

7. Drink plenty of water - at least 60 ounces a day. It is especially beneficial to drink plain hot water, as if you are drinking tea without the tea or sugar. Also, drink a tea made from boiling a lemon (with the peel).

8. Eat soup at least once a day. A low-salt nutritious soup rehydrates the body while also nourishing and flushing waste from the body. It has been found that people who eat one or more soups each day lose more weight than those who eat the same number of calories but don't eat soup. (Seek out homemade soup, because canned soups are filled with salt and chemicals.)

9. A 30-minute daily walk can do wonders for your metabolism. Try taking a walk 30 minutes in the morning or 30 minutes in the evening, two hours before bed. For toning you might replace one of the walks with some stretching activities such as tai chi or a mild form of yoga.

Cut the Fat with L-carnitine
L-carnitine, an amino acid produced in your liver, helps regulate fat metabolism and promotes fat loss making it essential in any weight loss program. L-carnitine also helps reduce triglycerides and increase good cholesterol, thereby protecting the heart. Rich sources of L-carnitine include meats, fish, poultry, wheat, avocado, milk, and fermented soybeans.

I hope these suggestions have you feeling fit and healthy!

HEALTHY VAGINAS WHAT ALL WOMEN SHOULD KNOW

Most women experience minor vaginal problems from time to time. These problems can be related to menstrual cycles, sex, infection, birth control methods, aging, medicines, or changes after pregnancy.

A change in your normal vaginal discharge may be the first sign of a vaginal problem. Changes in urination, such as having to urinate more frequently or a burning feeling when you urinate, also may be a symptom of a vaginal problem.

Conditions that may cause a change in your normal vaginal discharge include:

Infections of the vagina, such as a yeast infection, bacterial vaginosis, trichomoniasis, human papillomavirus (HPV), or herpes.
Infection of the cervix (cervicitis).
An object in the vagina, such as a forgotten tampon.
Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), such as chlamydia or gonorrhea.
Various sex practices, such as oral-to-vaginal and anal-to-vaginal contact.
Vaginal medicines or douching.

Vaginal infections
The presence or excess growth of yeast cells, bacteria, or viruses can cause a vaginal infection. A vaginal infection may occur when there is a change in the normal balance of organisms in your vagina.

The three most common types of vaginal infections are:

Candida vulvovaginitis (yeast infections).
Bacterial infections (bacterial vaginosis).
Parasitic infections (trichomoniasis).

Common symptoms of vaginal infection include:

Increase or change in the vaginal discharge, including gray, green, or yellow discharge.
Vaginal redness, swelling, itching, or pain.
Vaginal odor.
Burning with urination.
Pain or bleeding with sex.
If you are pregnant and have vaginal symptoms, talk with your doctor about your symptoms before considering any home treatment measures. Some home treatment measures may not be appropriate, depending on the cause of your vaginal infection. Conditions such as bacterial vaginosis can affect your pregnancy, so it is important to talk with your doctor and be treated appropriately.

Vaginal infections may increase the risk for pelvic infections, such as pelvic inflammatory disease (PID).

Vaginal or vulvar problems
Other vaginal or vulvar problems may occur from the use of birth control methods, the use of medicines, or aging, or as a result of changes after pregnancy. These problems include:

Vaginal prolapse, which may cause urination and bowel changes.
Retained tampon, birth control device, or foreign object. See how to remove an object from the vagina.

Vulvar or vaginal injury, such as landing on a metal bar such as on a bike or playground equipment or from an object in the vagina.

Vulvar pain (vulvodynia).

Noninfectious vaginitis. Examples of this include:
An allergic reaction or irritation from chemicals, such as those found in vaginal sprays, douches, or spermicides.

Hormone changes related to menopause, such as atrophic vaginitis.
Use of antibiotics and other medicines, which may change the balance of organisms in your vagina.

A young girl with unusual vaginal symptoms should be evaluated by her doctor to determine the cause. Vaginitis in a young girl may be caused by:

A ball of toilet paper in her vagina.
Pinworms that have spread from the anus to the vagina.
The spread of bacteria from an upper respiratory infection of the ears (otitis media) or throat (tonsillitis) to the vagina by her hands.
A young girl with vaginal symptoms must also be evaluated for possible sexual abuse.

Rashes, sores, blisters, or lumps in the vaginal or vulvar area
Many conditions can cause a rash, sore, blister, or lump in your vaginal area (vulva). One of the most common causes of a rash is genital skin irritation that may occur when soap is not rinsed off the skin or when tight-fitting or wet clothes rub against the skin. A sore, blister, or lump in your vaginal area may require a visit to your doctor.

Treatment of a vaginal problem depends on the cause of the problem, the severity of your symptoms, and your overall health condition.

Home Treatment
A vaginal infection may clear up without treatment in 2 or 3 days.

If you could be pregnant, do a home pregnancy test. Any pregnant woman with abnormal vaginal symptoms should talk with her doctor about her symptoms before considering using any home treatment measures or nonprescription medicines. For more information, see the topic Pregnancy-Related Problems.

Avoid sex so that irritated vaginal tissues can heal.
Do not scratch the vaginal area. Relieve itching with a cold water compress or cool baths. Warm baths may also relieve pain and itching.

Make sure that the cause of your symptoms is not a forgotten tampon or other foreign object. For more information, see how to remove an object in the vagina.

Wear loose-fitting, cotton clothing. Stay away from nylon and synthetics, because they hold heat and moisture close to the skin, which makes it easier for an infection to start. You may want to remove pajama bottoms or underwear when you sleep.

Do not douche unless your doctor tells you to.
If you have gone through menopause, try using a vaginal lubricant, such as Astroglide or Replens, to reduce irritation caused by having sex.

Vaginal yeast infections
If you have symptoms of a vaginal yeast infection and have been diagnosed and treated by your doctor for this condition in the past, you may want to try using a nonprescription medicine, such as tioconazole (for example, Vagistat), clotrimazole (for example, Gyne-Lotrimin), or miconazole (for example, Monistat) to treat your symptoms.

If your symptoms do not improve with home treatment in 2 or 3 days, contact your doctor. Vaginal symptoms that may be related to another type of vaginal infection or a cervical infection need to be evaluated.

Women who take the blood-thinning medicine warfarin (Coumadin) and use a nonprescription vaginal yeast-fighting medicine, such as Monistat, may have increased bruising and abnormal bleeding. Consult with your doctor before using a yeast-fighting medicine if you take warfarin.

The following tips may help you prevent a vaginal infection.

If you think your frequent vaginal infections may be related to using a diaphragm, spermicidal foam or jelly, or condoms, discuss other birth control options with your doctor.

Wipe from front to back
after using the toilet, to avoid spreading bacteria from the anus to the vagina.

Wash the vaginal area once a day with plain water or a mild, nonperfumed soap. Do not use bubble bath. Rinse well and dry thoroughly.

Change tampons at least 3 times a day during your period, or alternate tampons with pads. Remember to remove the last tampon used during your period.

Wear cotton underwear and avoid clothes that fit tightly, such as tight-fitting jeans. Cotton underwear and loose-fitting clothing help prevent the vaginal area from staying warm and moist, which can promote the growth of yeast cells. Tight-fitting clothes may cause skin irritation leading to a rash.

Remove wet bathing suits and exercise clothing promptly.

Avoid douching.
Avoid the use of feminine deodorant sprays and other perfumed products. They may cause genital skin irritation or an allergic reaction (contact dermatitis).
Having multiple sex partners and not using condoms can increase your risk of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), which may increase your risk of a vaginal infection.

Urinate after sex, and rinse your vaginal area with cool water.
Limit intense exercise, such as bike riding or horseback riding, that can irritate the vulva. If you have diabetes, keep your blood sugar in good control.
Take antibiotics when needed, but avoid unnecessary use of antibiotics. Taking antibiotics exposes you to the risks of allergic reactions and antibiotic side effects (such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and yeast infections). Also, antibiotics may kill good bacteria.

Death Begins In The Colon! Why You Must Clean Your Colon

That statement comes from a Russian scientist, Elie Metchnikoff, who won the Nobel Prize... and... it is very true!

There's no getting around it, if you want to live a long and healthy life... the most important thing you can do is... make SURE you have a clean and healthy colon.

Have you ever wondered if your body is as clean on the inside as it is on the outside?

We shower or bathe every day.

We brush our teeth on a daily basis.

Most of shampoo our hair every day, too.

We even have manicures and pedicures to make sure our fingernails and toenails are clean and attractive. But most of us fail to make sure our insides are clean... until... we develop some symptoms or a disease which gives us a wake-up call.

The truth is, our digestive tract (especially the colon) is the "sewer system" of our body. If we are to enjoy good health, that system requires regular cleaning.

If you suffer from:

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
Constipation
Stomach Pain
Lack of Energy
Digestive Problems

It's almost certain you have an "unclean" and toxic colon. In fact, a toxic colon probably contributes to almost every disease suffered by the human race.

Why A Clean Colon Is So Important!
We are all exposed to thousands of toxins and unhealthy chemicals on a daily basis. We take them in from the food we eat, the water we drink, the air we breathe, and the prescription medications we take.

These toxins and dangerous chemicals, along with the "typical" American diet lead to poor digestion, constipation, weight gain, low energy, headaches, and many other horrible human maladies. Believe it or not, autopsies reveal the colons of 80% of people who have passed away, are clogged up with waste material.

This waste material gives parasites an ideal place to live. These tiny creatures are alive, and all too often they severely damage every cell in our bodies. In fact, according to the magazine, "National Geographic"...

Parasites Have Killed More Humans Than All The Wars In History!
But the good news is, now there is an easy way to free your body of all the excess waste material, accumulated toxins and parasites!

There is an easy way for you to get rid of:

constipation
fatigue
parasite infection
excess weight
bad breath
irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
a protruding belly
frequent colds
hemorrhoids
yeast infections

Eating this diet helps in the cleansing process. Abstain from soft drinks, coffee, candy, and dairy products other than health food store yogurt, buttermilk, and butter -- and keep them to a minimum.

Drink eight to ten glasses of water every day, as well as fruit and vegetable juices.

There are three cycles to this program: cleansing, maintenance, cleansing.

Cleansing
Take the recommended serving (found on label) of your favorite colon cleansing product two times a day until your eliminations are a lighter color.

Maintenance
Take the recommended serving of your favorite colon cleansing product once a day for one month.

Cleansing
Take the recommended serving of your colon cleansing product two times a day until your eliminations return to a lighter color.

Continue this rotation until you feel lighter and "cleaned out." This feeling of being clean is hard to describe, but you'll know it when it happens. At this point, your stools will become lighter more quickly after maintenance and you will take the cleansing serving less often.

From this point on, use your favorite colon cleansing product as you feel it's necessary.

If you're following the program, your diet will contain lots of fiber and you won't need to use the product as often as those who return to conventional eating.

Can't Sleep, Try Ultimate Colon Cleanser

INTENSIVE CLEANSING PROGRAM

Consume at least 1 gallon (3.8 liters) of distilled or purified water. You may take a super green drink like Dr. Kim's Greens or have vegetable juice anytime, but do not eat any solid food during the day. In the evening, have a small meal -- a large salad and some steamed vegetables. Take a quality probiotic (at least four capsules) before retiring at night. For the rest of the week, take the recommend servings of your favorite colon cleansing product.

WEEK TWO
Follow the Week One regimen for two consecutive days and for the rest of the week take the recommended servings of your favorite colon cleansing product fifteen minutes before two meals per day.

WEEK THREE
Follow the Week One regimen for three consecutive days and for the rest of the week take the recommended servings of your favorite colon cleansing product fifteen minutes before two meals per day.

If your bowels become too loose during the program, cut back on the amount of your favorite colon cleansing product.

After the three-week program, continue taking the recommended serving of your favorite colon cleansing product before two meals. Do this for three to six months until your stool is light and well-formed.

After this initial cleansing program, take the recommended serving of your favorite colon cleansing product one time per day for maintenance. You may use your favorite colon cleansing product as long as you wish. Some people only use it during cleansing periods several times a year; others use it every day; others use it only when they eat constipating meals.

GREEN TEA CAN CAUSE WEIGHT LOSS..YEAAAA!!!

There are two ways to lose weight -- either reduce energy intake, or increase energy expenditure. Because hypothyroidism -- even after treatment -- may reduce energy expenditure in some people, patients naturally are looking for options that can help safely help raise the metabolism.

In a study reported on in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, it was found that green tea extract resulted in a significant increase in energy expenditure (a measure of metabolism), plus also had a significant effect on fat oxidation. While some of the effects were originally theorized to be due to the caffeine content of green tea, the researchers discovered that the tea actually has properties that go beyond those that would be explained by the caffeine. The same amount of caffeine as was in the green tea, administered alone, failed to change energy expenditure in other studies. This led reseachers to believe that there is some interaction going on with the active ingredients of green tea that promotes increased metabolism and fat oxidation.

The researchers indicated that their findings have substantial implications for weight control. A 4% overall increase in 24-hour energy expenditure was attributed to the green tea extract, however, the research found that the extra expenditure took place during the daytime. This led them to conclude that, since thermogenesis (the body's own rate of burning calories) contributes 8-10% of daily energy expenditure in a typical cubject, that this 4% overall increase in energy expenditure due to the green tea actually translated to a 35-43% increase in daytime thermogenesis.

Of critical importance to thyroid patients is the fact that none of the research subjects reported any side effects, and no significant differences in heart rates were noticed. In this respect, green tea extract is different from some of the prescription drugs for obesity, and herbal products like ephedra, which can raise heart rates and blood pressure, and are not recommended for many individuals, in particular, those with thyroid disease who may be particularly sensitive to stimulants.

Implications for You?

If you were to incorporate green tea into your weight loss efforts, how is the best way to go about it?

One way would be to choose a reputable brand of organic green tea at a health food store or natural grocery, and start by taking a cup of tea every day. You can also take a green tea extract, in the form of a supplement.

Either way, says dietitian Lynn Moss, M.S., R.D., a continuing education specialist for Pharmavite, makers of Nature Made and Nature's Resource supplements and herbs, you should definitely take the green tea with meals, to reproduce the study's conditions as much as possible.

Moss also feels that green tea may be a good choice for thyroid patients because, unlike caffeine, " green tea has the potential to accelerate metabolism -- which can help weight loss slightly -- without overstimulating your adrenal glands."

And even a small effect can go a long way, when you are dealing with a metabolism that may not rebound entirely, despite hypothyroidism treatment.

Is Green Tea Dangerous to the Thyroid?

In response to my article, some readers expressed concerns regarding the high fluoride content in tea, and the negative relationship between ingestion of too much fluoride and thyroid problems, as well as other health concerns.

This is definitely something to be considered before deciding to take green tea.

While green tea has some definite benefits in the cancer-prevention and metabolism-boosting arena, the fluoride content may, according to some practitioners, be a concern for the public in general, but specifically for thyroid patients.

IF YOUR TRYING TO REDUCE FAT LIPO-DISOVE CLAIMS TO BE THE ANSWER

A technique known as lipo-dissolve is being touted on the Internet and elsewhere as being relatively new, but it's really an update of mesotherapy, a method I've criticized in the past.

Like mesotherapy, lipo-dissolve is used for "spot reduction" of fat deposits and cellulite. It is promoted as an alternative to liposuction to reduce sagging jawlines, "love handles," and upper-back fat or "bra fat." My objections to mesotherapy center on the fact that there doesn't seem to be any standardization of the "fat burning" substances injected.

Different doctors use different combinations of drugs, usually a mélange of plant extracts, vitamins, Novocain and aminophylline (a stimulant drug from tea that was formerly used to treat the symptoms of asthma).

Another substance that is often used is phosphatidylcholine, a constituent of cell membranes that can also be isolated from egg yolks and soybeans. When injected into the skin, it can cause extreme swelling and inflammation at the injection site.

Lipo-dissolve contains a mixture of phosphatidylcholine and sodium deoxycholate, a bile salt that aids waste removal. This concoction, called PCDC, theoretically produces an inflammatory response that breaks down fat so that it can be eliminated from the body. Side effects include redness, swelling, burning and pain, the hallmarks of inflammation.

I have my doubts about the effectiveness and safety of lipo-dissolve and so do the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery and the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, all groups made up of physicians who spend much of their working lives dealing with cosmetic issues.

The three organizations have warned patients away from lipo-dissolve and maintain that there's no evidence to demonstrate that the procedure is worthwhile. Worse are reports of complications, including bacterial infections, granulomas (disfiguring masses of chronically inflamed tissue) and localized necrosis (tissue death).

The big selling point for lipo-dissolve is that it is less expensive and less invasive than liposuction. The big difference is that liposuction has been scientifically studied, and its benefits and risks are well documented.

Moreover, unlike lipo-dissolve and mesotherapy, liposuction can be performed only by licensed physicians (who should be well trained and have a successful track record that prospective patients can check). Finally, experts note that even when lipo-dissolve produces good results, they are likely to be temporary.

If you're trying to eliminate fat, my recommendation is to opt for the safest, most effective and least expensive method: eat right and get regular physical activity.

WARNING: HOUSEHOLD ITEMS CAUSING CANCER WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR

A heating pad can relieve pain and loosen stiff joints, and won't cause overheating if the setting is monitored. But is it completely safe?

Household appliances such as heating pads, electric blankets and mattress covers, plug-in hair dryers, computers, and coffeemakers all generate electromagnetic fields (EMFs), invisible lines of force that surround electrical equipment, power cords, and power lines.

For the past two decades, researchers have been investigating whether these EMFs can disrupt internal body control systems and increase the risk of cancer or weaken the immune system. So far no studies have confirmed that EMFs increase the risk of cancer among adults.

Some studies have suggested a link between EMFs and childhood leukemia, but here evidence relates to the proximity of power lines, not household appliances. The bad news is that the possibility of an EMF/cancer connection hasn't been definitively ruled out.

Some research has suggested that exposure to low-level magnetic fields emitted by such appliances as hair dryers, electric blankets and electric razors can damage DNA in brain cells.

The data come from a study in rats at the University of Washington, which found DNA damage in animals exposed to a 60 hertz field for 24 hours; more damage was found after 48 hours. Henry Lai, Ph.D., the study leader, said that data from this and a previous study suggest that the effects of exposure are cumulative and may build up in humans over time as a result of repeated brief use of common plug-in appliances.

He suggests limiting exposure to as little time as possible, particularly with devices used close to the body. The strength of EMFs falls off exponentially as distance from the source increases. So move plug-in clock radios away from your head and hold the hair dryers farther away.

So, regarding heating pads. Because we can't say for sure that EMFs pose no risks, I would advise anyone who feels the need for localized heat to use a non-electric heating pad, such as one that you warm up in hot water or in the microwave.

MELT AWAY STENT MAKING HEALTH NEWS

A melt away polymer stent that is quietly absorbed by the body after it has done its job of keeping a coronary artery open has worked well in an international trial, researchers report.

The stent was successfully implanted in 29 of 31 attempts, the report said. In a one-year follow-up, none of the arteries in which the bio-absorbable stent had been implanted had closed again. One of the 30 people given the stent had a heart attack during that time, but no other adverse events were reported.

A major clinical trial of the experimental stent is under way in several countries, said Karin Bauer, a spokeswoman for Abbott Laboratories, the company that developed the device. Plans for a U.S. trial are in the preliminary stages, she said.

"We currently are looking at the safety and feasibility of using the bio-absorbable stent platform in patients here,"
Bauer said. "Once we have completed the international trial, we will look at the feasibility of bringing such a trial to the United States, but we haven't made any decision as to when that might be."

The new stent has a backbone of lactic acid. It also is coated with everolimus, a drug that prevents formation of scar tissue.

Traditional stents are wire metal mesh tubes used to prop open an artery during angioplasty, a procedure done to clear blockages from the blood vessel.

An absorbable stent has many potential advantages, said Dr. Patrick W. Serruys, a professor of medicine and interventional cardiology at Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, one site of the international trial. Other sites are located in Denmark, Poland and New Zealand.

"The so-called restenosis process takes place in the first six months, so there is no need to have a permanent scaffolding device," Serruys explained. Restenosis is the reclosing of an artery, which can occur after a metal stent is implanted.

The polymer of which the Abbott stent is made breaks down to form carbon dioxide and water, "so you don't have a permanent foreign body in the blood vessel," he said. "That gives you more flexibility in the vessel. And some metallic stents are breaking, and the fracture of the metal creates some unpleasant reactions."

Because the polymer stent disappears, "many years later you are still able to work on the vessel," Serruys added. "You don't have a metallic cage that limits expansion of the vessel."

Serruys said he was "impressed and amazed by the fact that the first attempt was so successful."

A second trial of a new version of the stent is in the planning stage, said study co-investigator Dr. John A. Ormiston, one of New Zealand's top interventional cardiologists and president of the Asia-Pacific Society of Interventional Cardiology. It will be done at the same sites as the first study, and will also have 30 stent recipients.

"There have been important design modifications," Ormiston said of the stent in the new trial. "The scaffold will be different so that it will be stronger. We think we might get even better results than we've had so far."

The trial could begin later this year. If it succeeds, it would be the prelude to a larger international trial that could lead to approval of the new stent for medical use, Ormiston said.

WHY APPLES ARE SO HEALTHY

What exactly is it about this seemingly magical fruit that causes doctors and health experts from all around the world to advertise the health benefits of apples? Is it due solely to the high levels of nutritional content in apples?
Can't Sleep, Try Ultimate Colon Cleanser

We are now beginning to gain a better understanding of the vitamins found in apples, as well as the highly beneficial characteristics of the numerous compounds found in apples. Knowing why apples are good for you and your family will further encourage you to pursue them as a vital part of your family's diet.

Before we look at some of the many health benefits of apples, you may be wondering why you can't just take vitamins that contain the same nutrients as found in apples. That is a good question. It is better to eat apples than it is merely to take vitamins because it now appears that the many vitamins and minerals found in apples act together to provide you with more benefits than when taken alone. Simply put, the sum of an apple is more valuable than its individual vitamins and minerals. The health benefits of apples are:

Continued mental health
Now, let's get to the benefits! According to NutritionData.com the phytonutrients found in apples can protect your brain from debilitating diseases such as Alzheimer and Parkinson's. These diseases sprout from the breakdown of the brain.

If you want to maintain your full mental capabilities for you and your family as you enter the later stages of your life.

High levels of fiber
Another benefit of apples, although less known, is its ability to provide your body with sufficient levels of fiber. You will not usually find fiber listed within the content of apple nutrition, but fiber offers substantial value to your diet. Fiber is known for its tendency to ensure both digestive regularity and relief of constipation. AmericanHear.org states that fiber also helps in the fight against many potentially fatal diseases, including different forms of cancer and heart disease. It can also help prevent other not-so-serious - yet highly annoying - problems such as hemorrhoids and Crohn’s disease.

Reduced risk of heart disease and diabetes
One of the biggest myths in the medical field is the idea that women do not need to be concerned about heart disease. It has long been thought of as a "man's disease", but the tide has turned in recent years. We now know that women are prone to heart disease, particularly as they move on in years.

The good news is that with frequent checkups, steady exercise, and a healthy diet, you can reduce your risk of any major problems. Keeping with our theme, consider apples an integral part of your healthy diet. Studies completed by NYAppleCountry.com has shown that the consumption of apples leads to a lower risk for heart trouble.

The jury is still out on just how much apples can benefit your heart, but one recent experiment showed that women who had eaten apples for an extended period had a 15% decrease in cardiovascular disease risk. That is good news for you - and for your family who wants you around for a long time.

Not only can apples decrease your risk of heart disease, they can also reduce your risk for diabetes. Several studies have shown that women who consumed at least an apple a day were able to reduce their risk of Type II diabetes. Many of the preventive vitamins were found in the peel of the apple. Your kids may not like the peel, and you may even be prone to removing it yourself, but it is an essential part of the apple. Later on we will briefly touch upon the benefits of eating the whole apple.

Weight loss and a reduction in asthma
If you have any interest in losing weight, you will be glad to know that apples have also been associated with significant weight loss. WeightLossForAll.com features a Brazilian study of middle-aged women that shows that they were more likely to lose weight if they consumed apples on a regular basis. Another group of overweight women asked to eat three apples a day eventually showed more weight loss than women who had similarly eaten other fruits for the same amount of time.

DOES BOTOX HELP BACK PAIN

Botulinum toxin A is a protein produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum, the same bacteria that causes botulism food poisoning. When injected into muscle in tiny amounts, botulinum A (Botox) can stop or reduce muscle spasm by blocking nerve signals to the muscle. This treatment has been used since the early 1990s to relieve severe muscle spasms around the eyes and in the neck, arms, legs, hands, and feet. Some people with cerebral palsy have gained significant relief from severe muscle contraction with botulinum toxin injections.

Botulinum toxin A has recently been tried as a treatment for chronic low back pain. Although this practice is experimental and not well-tested, it has shown early promise. In one small study of 31 people with chronic low back pain, botulinum A injection was compared to saline injection into painful back muscles.1

3 weeks after treatment, about 73% of botulinum toxin recipients reported pain relief of 50% or more, while only 25% of the saline group did.
8 weeks after treatment, 60% of botulinum recipients reported pain relief of 50% or more, while only 12% of the saline group did.
Pain relief was reported by most people as lasting 3 to 4 months.
No troubling side effects were reported. However, the small size of the study makes it impossible to guarantee that botulinum toxin injection is an effective and safe treatment for you

DO MUSCLE RELAXANTS HELP SLIPPED DISCS

Muscle relaxants for a herniated disc

How It Works
Muscle relaxant medicines relax muscles and may help reduce pain in people who have muscle spasms.

Why It Is Used
Muscle relaxant medicines are used when muscle spasms develop because of pain caused by a herniated disc.

Valium is not recommended for use by pregnant women, older adults, or people with depression or a history of drug or alcohol addiction.

How Well It Works
Muscle relaxant medicines are usually helpful for reducing the pain of muscle spasms. Muscle relaxants may help to relax muscle spasms caused by a herniated disc, but muscle relaxants will not affect the herniated disc itself.

Side Effects
Side effects of muscle relaxant medicines include:

Drowsiness.
Dry mouth.
Likelihood of addiction with regular use of diazepam (Valium) and carisoprodol (such as Soma).
Urinary retention.

EXAMPLES
Soma carisoprodol
Flexeril cyclobenzaprine hydrochloride
Valium diazepam
Skelaxin metaxalone
Robaxin methocarbamol
Norflex orphenadrine citrate

Medicine can decrease low back pain and reduce muscle spasms in some people
. But medicine alone is not an effective treatment for low back pain. It should be used along with other treatments, such as exercise and physical therapy.

Medication Choices
but research has not proven them to be helpful. These include
Painkillers (acetaminophen, opiates).
Epidural corticosteroid injections.
Colchicine.

Muscle relaxants are also used sometimes, but they can have significant side effects, such as drowsiness. Some people develop a dependence on the drug. For some people, the benefit from muscle relaxants is not worth the risk of side effects or dependence.3

Medicine for chronic low back pain
There are no medicines that have been proven to reliably decrease chronic back pain, but several medicines are likely to be beneficial. These include:6

Painkillers (acetaminophen, opiates).
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Anesthetic or corticosteroid injections.
Antidepressants (such as tricyclics), muscle relaxants, epidural corticosteroid injections, and anticonvulsants have all been prescribed for chronic low back pain, but they have not been researched enough to know whether they are effective for most people.

You may also hear of people having facet joint injections of anesthetic or corticosteroid for low back pain, but research has shown this to be ineffective or even harmful.

What To Think About
When making treatment decisions, bear in mind that medicines that work for some people don't work for others. Let your doctor know if the medicine you are taking is not effective. There may be another option to help control your back pain.

Botulinum toxin A (Botox) injection into the back muscles for chronic low back pain is an experimental treatment.

GREEN TEA BOOSTERS WHY YOU NEED GREEN TEA

Did you know that most of the free-radical fighters in green tea never make it to your bloodstream? But there's a solution.

To get a better grasp on the healthy catechins in your green tea, flavor your cuppa with a squeeze of citrus juice.

Green Tea Booster
Catechins -- the antioxidants in green tea famous for lowering your risk of chronic disease -- quickly lose their power in your intestine. In fact, as much as 80 percent of the catechins in green tea are never absorbed. The solution to boosting absorption, researchers recently found, is as simple as flavoring your tea with freshly squeezed and strained lemon, orange, lime, or grapefruit juice.

Taking Tea with C
The vitamin C in citrus may help with absorption by increasing the acidity in your small intestine. Other unidentified substances in the juice probably lend a hand, too. Researchers found a 50-50 mix had the greatest catechin-preserving effect, and lemon did it best, closely followed by orange, lime, and, in last place, grapefruit. (Try this green tea smoothie with lemon for a new twist on tea.)

BREAST FED BABIES LESS LIKELY TO BE DIABETIC

Breast-fed babies appear to be less likely to develop type 2 diabetes, according to findings published in the medical journal Diabetes Care.

To investigate factors related to the occurrence of type 2 diabetes in individuals 10to 21 years of age, the researchers used a subset of data from a larger study. The analysis included 80 subjects with type 2 diabetes who were matched to 167 "controls" without diabetes.

The breast-feeding rate was lower in subjects with type 2 diabetes compared with the control subjects, at 20 versus 27 percent in African Americans; 50 versus 84 percent for Hispanics; and 39 percent versus 78 percent for non-Hispanic whites, respectively.

"Given other well-established reasons for breast-feeding," the researchers conclude, "renewed efforts to encourage breast-feeding in populations at high risk for type 2 diabetes may be useful."

FOOD THAT MAKES YOUR SEX DRIVE RISE

Overworked and Under-sexed
We’re hot-blooded, passionate beings. So why do you find yourself saying “Not tonight, dear…” for the fifth time this week? If your libido is limping toward the finish line, blame it on your busy life. “After sitting at a computer and working all day, we just don’t feel like sex,” The same goes for homemakers swamped with chores and errands.

Even if you do find the energy to get busy between the sheets, you may find yourself halfheartedly going through the motions. What to do? The secret may be simple relaxation. To truly enjoy lovemaking, “you have to prepare yourself mentally and spiritually,” says Hadady. And that doesn’t just mean dimming the lights and playing soft music. To really get in the mood, I recomend indulging all your senses, starting with your sense of smell.

Scent-Sational Sex
Aromatherapy oils will relax and rejuvenate you, not to mention make your room smell delicious. Here are five of the most erotic:

1. Geranium
This herb, native to Africa, has undertones of fruit and mint. It “stimulates adrenal energy, the driving force behind libido,” explains Hadady. It revives the senses and reduces stress – the perfect antidote to a day in career overdrive.

2. Jasmine
Rich, exotic and honey-sweet, this oil evokes a “sensual southern climate, like Mexico or San Diego,” says Hadady. Found in France, Egypt and India, it emanates a lush, sensual fragrance perfect for massage oils.

3. Grapefruit
Grapefruit oil wakes up your senses and energizes you with its refreshing and citrusy aroma.

4. Cardamom
The spicy undertones of this Indian herb stimulate energy and help relieve fatigue and depression, while the floral undertones make you feel oh-so-alluring.

5. Clove
This native of tropical Asia is “a spicy aphrodisiac,” says Hadady. One whiff of its warm, fruity and sweet aroma will put lovin’ on your mind.

Admittedly, not everyone finds geranium arousing or grapefruit energizing. What one person deems irresistible another may dismiss as nauseating, Hadady notes. Before the big night, do a trial run. Dab some oil on the inside of your wrists or behind your ears, and give it a few minutes to settle. If you and your guy both like it, try these suggestions for more sizzle in the sack.

- Add a few drops of the oil to the final rinse of your nightgown and sheets.
- Mix a little oil into unscented moisturizing lotion.
- Diffuse the scent through your bedroom with a vaporizer.
- Add a few drops to a warm bath for two.

Super Sexy Herbs
For more fun in the bedroom, Hadady also recommends herbal tonics – concoctions of complementary herbs blended together.

While essential oils have an immediate, temporary effect on your psyche, herbal tonics take longer to work and provide more permanent benefits. “As you take them over time, you’ll gradually notice their benefits,” Hadady explains.

Looking for sexual tonics? Try these five herbs:

1. Yohimbe
Derived from the bark of African evergreen trees, yohimbe has long been used in fertility celebrations. Like Viagra, yohimbe dilates blood vessels, which can help your guy overcome impotency, Hadady explains. But don’t let him hog this herb – it also helps increase the blood flow to your genitals and sharpens your senses – an aphrodisiac double whammy.

2. Ashwagandha
This Indian herb offers solace when you’re “stressed, burned out and exhausted,” says Hadady. Its tranquilizing properties help you shrug off the cares of the day and get in a sultry state of mind. And it soothes tired, sore muscles so you can focus on other parts of your body!

3. Shatavari
Commonly known as wild asparagus, this herb has been nicknamed “wife with 1,000 husbands,” but it works just as well for monogamous types.

Found in the jungles of India, shatavari is a moistening herb. Taking it over time will give you more lubrication, making lovemaking more comfortable.

4. Shilajit
A byproduct of coal, shilajit has been prized for centuries in India.

Like shatavari, it’s a moistening herb and will not only benefit you below the belt, but all over your entire body, rejuvenating hair, skin and nails.

Bonus: It doubles as an anti-wrinkle and anti-aging treatment.

5. Epimedium
Also known as horny goat weed, this hardy Asian herb allegedly earned it name when a Chinese goat herder noticed his flock eating it then mating enthusiastically. True to form, it boosts libido by increasing the body’s production of “feel-good” hormones like epinephrine, serotonin and dopamine.

You can find many of these herbs at your local health foods store. But remember: always consult your doctor before you begin any type of supplementation regimen.

THE HEALTHIEST BREAKFAST FOOD RECIPIES

In the time you spend each morning doing your hair, you could be doing something more important, with a much better payoff: eating breakfast. Your teachers was right (and it's okay to admit it): Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

It keeps you slim: Breakfast eaters are less likely to be overweight than breakfast skippers, and successful dieters are also more likely to be breakfast eaters.

It keeps you healthy: Eating breakfast may reduce your risk of serious illnesses like heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and cancer, and it strengthens your immune system so you're more resistant to common ailments like colds and the flu.

It keeps you sharp: Memory and concentration get a boost from breakfast. A study on children found that kids who eat breakfast score higher on tests and are less likely to suffer from depression, anxiety, and hyperactivity. It should help you at the office, too.

The Perfect Meal
You say you eat breakfast? Good boy. Even so, it's likely you're doing it wrong. "Most men make the mistake of eating too little in the morning, and then get so hungry they go overboard and eat a giant meal later in the day," says Evelyn Tribole, M.S., R.D., a nutritionist in Irvine, California, and author of Stealth Health.

A typical breakfast is just a couple of hundred calories, mostly in the form of simple carbohydrates that spike blood-sugar levels and leave the body starving for energy a couple of hours later.

Even a classic fiber-rich breakfast — say a cup of raisin bran with blueberries and skim milk — provides less than 300 calories and only about 10 grams of protein. An ideal breakfast needs to be much larger — between 500 and 600 calories. And it needs to be packed with vitamins, minerals, and nutrients, including at least 20 grams of protein and at least 5 grams of fiber. That will give your body a high-quality, long-lasting, steady supply of energy to help you through the morning.

Here's how to hit those numbers. Each of the following meals tastes great and can be made in minutes.

Blueberry Smoothie With Toasted-Cheese Sandwich
Prep time: 4 minutes 2 slices whole-wheat bread 1/2 c Kashi Go Lean Crunch! cereal 1 c fat-free milk 1 c frozen blueberries 1 1-oz slice Cheddar cheese Pop the bread into the toaster. Dump the cereal, milk, and berries into a blender and liquefy. Stick a slice of Cheddar between the warm slices of toast and nuke the sandwich in a microwave for 15 seconds. It tastes grilled—but isn't.

Benefits: "The cheese and milk in this meal are essential for building and maintaining new muscle," says Christine Rosenbloom, Ph.D., R.D., a professor of nutrition at Georgia State University. "The whole grains in the bread and cereal will help lower cholesterol, and the minerals in the milk and cheese will help keep blood-pressure levels down." Per meal: 509 calories, 26 grams (g) protein, 75 g carbohydrates, 14 g total fat, 12 g fiber

Grab-and-Go Breakfast
Prep time: 1 minute 1 medium apple 1/2 pint fat-free milk 1 bran Vita muffin 1 pack Skippy Squeeze Stix peanut butter Slice the apple, grab the milk, muffin, and peanut butter, and go. Squeeze the peanut butter out of its pack onto your apple slices as you eat.

Benefits: Vita muffins (vitalicious. com) contain 100 percent of your recommended intake of several important nutrients, including vitamins A, B6, B12, C, D, and E. Foods high in monounsaturated fats — like peanut butter — may boost testosterone levels. This meal should help you burn energy more efficiently and lift more weight at the gym.Per meal: 506 calories, 20 g protein, 87 g carbohydrates, 12 g total fat, 15 g fiber

Minute Omelette with Toast
Prep time: 2 minutes 1 egg 3/4 c frozen spinach, thawed 1 slice Canadian bacon, diced 2 slices whole-wheat bread 1 Tbsp almond butter 1 c Welch's grape juice Stir together the egg, spinach, and Canadian bacon and pour onto a plate coated with nonstick spray. Microwave for 1 minute or until the egg is fully cooked. Toast the bread and eat it with the almond butter. Chase everything with grape juice.

Benefits: Monounsaturated fat in the almond spread will help prevent spikes and drops in blood sugar, which can leave you feeling tired or crabby. Grape juice gives you an antioxidant, called resveratrol, that not only helps lower LDL (bad) cholesterol levels but also helps improve bloodflow to the heart.Per meal: 540 calories, 25 g protein, 73 g carbohydrates, 19 g total fat, 8 g fiber

Two PB-and-Banana Wraps With Milk
Prep time: 2 minutes 2 Tbsp peanut butter 2 Eggo Special K waffles 1 medium banana 1/2 pint fat-free chocolate milk Spread a tablespoon of peanut butter over each (briefly microwaved) waffle. Divide the banana between them and roll each to make wraps. Wash down with chocolate milk.

Benefits: Eggo's Special K waffles supply complex carbohydrates, which break down slowly in the body and stimulate the production of serotonin, a calming brain chemical. The banana is packed with potassium — a heart protector.
Per meal: 570 calories, 23 g protein, 90 g carbohydrates, 16 g total fat, 7 g fiber

The Santa Fe Burrito
Prep time: 4 minutes 2 eggs 1 c Santa Fe frozen mixed vegetables (black beans, peppers, and corn) 1 flour tortilla 1/2 c low-fat shredded Cheddar cheese 1/4 c salsa Mix the eggs and vegetables and spread the mixture on a plate coated with nonstick spray. Cook in the microwave for 1 minute, stir with a fork, and microwave again until the eggs are cooked and the vegetables warm. Pile onto a flour tortilla, top with shredded Cheddar cheese and salsa, fold, and eat.

Benefits: "Without protein, guys can lose muscle mass quickly," says William J. Evans, Ph.D., a professor of geriatrics, physiology, and nutrition at the University of Arkansas. This meal is packed with it.
Per meal: 530 calories, 36 g protein, 53 g carbohydrates, 18 g total fat, 6 g fiber

BEDTIME SNACKS TOO HELP YOU AND YOUR CHILDREN SLEEP

One of the best natural sedatives is tryptophan, an amino acid component of many plant and animal proteins.

Tryptophan is one of the ingredients necessary for the body to make serotonin, the neurotransmitter best known for creating feelings of calm, and for making you sleepy.

However, the trick is to combine foods that have some tryptophan with ample carbohydrate. That’s because in order for insomnia-busting tryptophan to work, it has to make its way to the brain.

Unfortunately, all amino acids compete for transport to the brain. When you add carbs, they cause the release of insulin, which takes the competing amino acids and incorporates them into muscle…but leaves tryptophan alone, so it can make its way to the brain, be converted to serotonin, and cause sleepiness.

Serotonin-producing bedtime snacks should be no more than 200 calories and should be eaten at least 30 minutes prior to bed.

Here are a few great ideas:

Bedtime Snacks for Adults

--6-8 oz container of non-fat, flavored yogurt topped with 2 tablespoons low-fat granola cereal
--Sliced apple with 1-2 teaspoons natural peanut butter
--3 cups low-fat popcorn – sprinkled with optional 2 tablespoons parmesan cheese

Bedtime Snacks for Teens

--One cup healthy cereal with skim milk
--Low-fat granola bar
--Scoop of vanilla or strawberry low-fat ice cream

Bedtime Snacks for Children

--1/2 cup low-fat vanilla pudding
--1/2 banana with 1-2 teaspoons peanut butter
--One cup skim milk with a bunch of grapes (or other fruit)

WHAT ARE THE TOP SUPERFRUIT WORRYS AND CONCERNS

The top consumer questions about superfruit juices?

#1: Are pasteurized superfruit juice as healthy as raw juices?

No. Raw fruit juice is always healthier than pasteurized. Heat processing destroys a significant portion of the nutrients found in raw juice.

#2: Is the Bisphenol-A chemical in the plastic containers used with fruit juices a threat to my health?

A small threat, perhaps, but the health benefits of drinking superfruit juices greatly outweigh the health risks of plastics chemicals. Still, it's better to drink such juices from glass containers, not plastic.

#3: Are organic fruit juices healthier than non-organic?

Yes! Organic fruits have much higher concentrations of phytonutrients (natural plant medicines), vitamins and minerals. Organic farming is also better for the environment. But even non-organic superfruits are very good for your health, and in my opinion, the health benefits of the natural fruit juices far outweighs the cancer risk of pesticide residues.

#4: Why do you call apple juice and grape juice "junk juices?"

Many superfruit juice products that claim "pomegranate" or "blueberry" on the front label are actually made mostly with cheaper juices such as grape and apple. These are fillers juices that have very little nutritional value compared to pomegranate, blueberry, acai and others.

#5: Are juices made from concentrate as good as juices made fresh?

No! Juices from concentrate are usually imported from growers around the world (including China), then reconstituted with water. The process of removing the water in the first place causes a loss of some nutrients. Reconstituted fruit juice is never as nutritionally potent as fresh fruit juice.

There is also no requirement that juice companies list the country of origin for their juice concentrates. For all you know, they may have been imported from China or some other country famous for exporting contaminated products.

#6: What are the ingredients to watch out for on superfruit juice labels?

Watch out for use of the following:

High fructose corn syrup (a refined sweetener linked to diabetes and obesity)
Sugar (refined table sugar)
Sucrose (also a refined sugar)
Sodium benzoate (a dangerous chemical preservative)
Apple juice (a filler juice and natural sweetener)
Grape juice (also used as a filler juice, better than sugars but still cheaper than superfruit juices

#7: How do I shop for a superfruit juice product?
Here's some quick advice:

Top choice: 100% pure superfruit juice, made from fresh fruits (not from concentrate), packaged in glass. These are by far the most expensive juice drinks on the market.

Good choice:
100% pure superfruit juice, made from concentrate, packaged in plastic.

Poor choice: Juice blends containing some amount of superfruit juice (but mostly apple juice and grape juice or water), made from concentrate, packaged in plastic.

Stupid choice: Juice drinks made with high fructose corn syrup and water, containing a small amount of actual juice, packaged in plastic. These are by far the cheapest juice drinks on the market.

#8: What are the healthiest fruit juices, and what are they good for?

Pomegranate: Anti-cancer, protects the heart and cardiovascular system

Blueberry: Lowers high cholesterol, protects the nervous system from oxidative damage (many people can eliminate statin drugs by eating more blueberries)

Acai: Anti-cancer, reduces digestive cancer risk, supports healthy nervous system function

Noni: Extremely potent anti-cancer, immune-boosting fruit (tastes terrible, though, if it's real)

Cherry: Anti-inflammatory. Reduces or ends arthritis pain. Anthocyanins are also anti-cancer.

Cranberry: Well known to eliminate urinary tract infections (and even helps protect you from airborne viral infections).

In fact, the simple thing to remember is that every berry contains natural medicines and the smaller the berry, the more potent the medicine. So large berries like cherries, strawberries and grapes are not nearly as medicinally potent as tiny berries like cranberries, black raspberries, red raspberries, acai and red currants. The more vibrant the color of the berry, the more medicine it contains. Strong or bright colors indicate higher density of natural medicine.

To get the most benefits, eat a large diversity of berries on a regular basis. Don't just stick to eating or drinking one type of berry. Instead, seek out a wide variety of berries and other superfruits.

#9: Can juice products cure my cancer?

Probably not by themselves. Beating cancer with nutrition almost always requires these things:

Daily consumption of raw plants from the allium family (garlic is best)
Daily consumption of raw cruciferous vegetables (like broccoli)
Massive intake of vitamin D (under supervision of a naturopath)
Daily consumption of raw, freshly blended fruit and vegetable juices (includ beet, ginger, kale and all the superfruits you can find...)
Total body cleansing, including liver cleanse, kidney cleanse and digestive cleanse
Supplementation with trace minerals like selenium
Regular physical exercise that makes you sweat (sweating is the body's way to eliminate toxins)
Completely eliminating all smoking, eating processed foods and using common personal care products or cosmetics (which contain cancer-causing chemicals)
Daily consumption of medicinal mushrooms like Reishi (recommended brand: www.MushroomScience.com)
Daily consumption of anti-cancer rainforest herbs (like Cat's Claw or Una de Gato: See http://www.NaturalNews.com/Report_Amazon...

As always, be sure to work with a naturopathic physician if you're battling cancer.

#10: What brands of superfruit juice do you trust?

I don't trust any brands. I read the ingredients on everything. Sometimes the same company sells a crap product right next to a quality product. Don't trust brands, and don't trust corporations. Trust only yourself: Read the ingredients!
